Our Program
From exploring the outdoors in Nature School to learning French, making music, discovering phonics, and engaging with all of our areas of learning, our days are fun filled and busy! Park Lane Preschool is a vibrant early learning center dedicated to fostering the growth and development of young learners in an engaging, inclusive, and nurturing environment. We take a play-based and child-centered approach to preschool education, focusing on the holistic development of each child—socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Our preschool values curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, providing opportunities for children to explore and discover their world while building essential skills for lifelong learning. Partnering with families, we strive to create a supportive community where children feel empowered to reach their full potential.

Curriculum Snapshot
Nature School
At Park Lane, our Nature School—guided by an award-winning Outdoor Canada Play teacher—aims to connect children with the natural world and inspire dynamic outdoor learning that ignites their curiosity, creativity and environmental stewardship. We prioritize unstructured play, enabling children to engage deeply with their surroundings, think freely, and explore the world in imaginative ways.
Nature School also stimulates children’s physical senses as they are invited to see, hear, smell, and touch their outdoor surroundings.
However, the experience doesn’t stop when students return indoors. Natural treasures like pinecones, acorns, shells and feathers collected outside are brought into the classroom for hands-on exploration, igniting young imaginations. These items are also used in literacy, numeracy and art projects.
Our outdoor adventures offer unique opportunities for students to explore patterns, life cycles, their senses, and subjects like science, math, art, and music, all while fostering a sense of environmental stewardship through our transdisciplinary themes.
By immersing children in nature, we foster a love for the environment and a desire to care for and protect it.
While Nature school is embedded in all we do, we explore the green space at the designated Green Space across the street (King’s Community Nature Green Space) every Tuesday morning. We go out in all weathers so please arrive on that day in muddy buddies and wellies, ready to explore!
French
We’re incredibly fortunate to have our very own bilingual teacher, Miss Chelsea, on our team! French will be thoughtfully woven into our program through dedicated weekly lessons, as well as integrated into our daily routines — including during Nature School. We’re also excited to introduce our very own French music classes, making language learning both fun and immersive!
Early Literacy
We recognize the crucial role that early literacy skills play in a child’s development, particularly in the Early Years. Building strong foundations in communication, phonics, and mark-making ensures that children are well-prepared for future literacy learning. Through a combination of phonics instruction, shared reading and writing, and guided literacy lessons, children develop phonemic awareness, learn to identify sounds within words, and practice segmenting and blending those sounds to support both reading and writing. These skills are nurtured in a balance of guided group sessions and personalized 1:1 support, giving every child the building blocks they need for successful literacy acquisition.
Areas of Learning
Our preschool is thoughtfully designed around dedicated learning areas, each equipped with resources and activities that invite curiosity and engagement. Children freely explore spaces such as the reading nook, writing table, numeracy zone, music corner, construction area, small world play, investigation station, sand and water trays, and art area. These learning environments are intentionally curated to support independent discovery and meaningful play. Alongside this, our teachers craft lesson plans that integrate guided learning with child-led exploration, ensuring that every moment contributes to a well-rounded educational experience.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
We understand the importance of creating a warm and nurturing environment where children feel safe. We use a classroom-based program, Kimochi, which promotes social and emotional learning by teaching children the skills to understand their emotions, peacefully communicate feelings to others, develop positive relationships, manage conflicts and challenges and make friends while they are at it!
